The Rebirth of Drive-In Movies on Long Island

Drive-in movies faded away a few decades ago, with many people opting out of this old fashioned fun. However, as more people are looking for ways to safely get out of the house, Long Island has come forward with some great drive-in movie night events for their communities. If you’re looking for something different to do with the whole family, consider attending a drive-in theater!

Town of Islip Drive-In Movies

Location: Varies, see location options here.

Admission: Free

The town of Islip is putting together many movie nights for families! Their locations vary, so you can look to see which will be the closest to you. Sponsored by Good Samaritan Hospital, they have a full list of family friendly hit movies. They do ask you to bring a non-perishable food item for the food drive. Gates open at 7, so expect to arrive a little early to get a good spot.

The Gateway Drive-In Theater

Location: The Gateway Playhouse, 215 South Country Rd., Bellport.

Admission: $35 per car

This drive-in theater is playing movies all summer from Ferris Bueller's Day Off to Bohemian Rhapsody. It is a charity event to raise money for the Performing Arts Center of Suffolk County. Movies start at 9 but they recommend arriving at least 30 minutes before in order to get a good spot!

Sag Harbor Cinema

Location: Havens Beach Park off Bay Street, Sag Harbor.

Admission: $40 per car.

Looking for a way to spend a nice Sunday night watching some classics under the stars? From movie classics such as Stand By Me and Thelma & Louise, it could be the perfect night out for those itching for some fresh air. See their other movie options here.

Will drive-in movies stick around even after this summer? We hope so!
