See Long Island's Beautiful Flowers

Long Island is filled with picturesque landscapes and natural wonders, and among its gems are the beautiful and vibrant flowers that bloom during the spring and summer months. From exquisite orchids to beautiful wildflowers, the island is a haven of stunning blooms attracting visitors for generations.

In this guide, we'll take you on a tour of some of the best places to see Long Island's beautiful flowers in all their glory.

Bridge Gardens

Located in Bridgehampton, Bridge Gardens is a must-visit destination for flower fanatics. The botanical garden is home to a wide range of flowers, from peonies to iris, and is especially beautiful during the spring and summer months when the park is in full bloom. The gardens offer several walking paths, which allow visitors to get close to the flowers and fully immerse themselves in the experience. Whether you're an avid gardener or simply appreciate the beauty of nature, Bridge Gardens is a sight to behold.

Bayard Cutting Arboretum

The Bayard Cutting Arboretum, situated on Long Island's south shore, is a 691-acre park and preserves many different plant and tree species. The park's various gardens feature thousands of blooming flowers yearly, including vibrant roses, daisies, and tulips. The garden also has hills and valleys, making it ideal for a hike or leisurely stroll so that visitors can take their time to admire the beautiful blooms.

Long Island Native Plant Initiative

Long Island Native Plant Initiative (LINPI) is an organization that strives to preserve the island's native plants, which are a crucial part of the local ecology. The organization frequently hosts community events showcasing the different native plants found across Long Island, from the endangered wildflowers of the Pine Barrens to the bountiful Queen Anne's lace growing in the open fields of Sagaponack. These events are not only informative but provide a valuable opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and enjoy the beauty of the island's natural flora.

Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park

Located in Oyster Bay, Planting Fields Arboretum is an idyllic place to visit and marvel at the garden's collection of exotic plants and flowers. As visitors roam the park's 409 acres, they'll be in awe of the stunning gardens filled with orchids, peonies, and other beautiful flowers. The park also features several greenhouses that allow visitors to see plants and flowers that would normally be out of season in the spring and summer months.

Brooklyn Botanic Garden's Plant Sale

Although technically not on Long Island, we wanted to mention it as an opportunity to take beautiful Long Island-made flowers home. The Brooklyn Botanic Garden's plant sale features a large variety of plants from nurseries across Long Island. Here, visitors can purchase an array of beautiful plants, flowers, and other gardening supplies to take back to their own gardens. The sale opens annually in early May and closes in early July, so you should check the dates if you plan on attending.

How to Save Money on Property Taxes with Home Improvement Projects

Have you considered giving your house a much-needed makeover but are hesitant because you're uncertain how that will affect your property taxes? Here's the thing: while, yes, property taxes are daunting and a significant expense for homeowners, there are many upgrades you can do to your humble abode that won't actually put too much of a strain on your wallet!

Here are some tips on how to save money on property taxes with home improvement projects.

1. Check Your Local Tax Laws

The first step is to check your local tax laws. Certain improvements could increase property taxes instead of reducing them. It's essential to do some research or consult a professional to know if there are any rules specific to your area.

2. Plan Your Improvements Wisely

When planning home improvements, focus on projects that increase your house's value. Cosmetic changes, such as repainting rooms, do not significantly affect your property taxes. On the other hand, replacing outdated plumbing or electrical systems, upgrading your roof, or adding a deck to your home improves its value and decreases your property taxes.

3. Keep Records of All Improvements

Keep records of all home improvements and upgrades, including materials and labor costs. These documents will help you claim deductions when you file your taxes. Moreover, some states require homeowners to submit these records with their property tax assessment.

4. Apply for Property Tax Exemptions

Property tax exemptions vary from state to state. Some states offer exemptions for energy-efficient upgrades such as solar panels, wind turbines, or low-impact windows. Others provide exemptions for homes belonging to veterans, senior citizens, or disabled individuals. Research your state's property tax exemption programs to know if you qualify.

5. Appeal Your Property Tax Assessment

Your property tax amount is based on the assessed value of your residence. However, if you believe that your home's appraised value is too high, filing an appeal could get your property taxes lowered. Get in touch with our team to get started!

Tips for Planning an Affordable Home Improvement Project This Spring

Spring is the perfect time for home improvement projects! Whether you're looking to increase your home's value or simply enhance its functionality, there are a number of affordable and easy ways to update your space. You can save money and achieve your desired outcome by setting a budget, prioritizing needs, and more.

Here are some tips for planning an inexpensive home improvement project this spring season:

Set a Budget

Setting a budget is the first step to planning an affordable home improvement project. Determine how much money you have available for the project and allocate it accordingly. Be sure to leave some wiggle room for unexpected expenses and unforeseen circumstances.

Prioritize Your Needs

Make a list of what kind of modifications your house needs and prioritize them based on what is most important. This will help you to focus on the most critical upgrades and ensure that you don't overspend on unnecessary items.

Research Materials and Vendors

It's easy to want to jump right in and start your project or projects ASAP, but be sure you do your research before choosing materials and vendors! Look for the best deals on quality materials and compare vendor prices to find the most affordable options. Don't hesitate to ask for recommendations and negotiate prices to get the best value.

DIY When Possible

Consider making some of the home modifications yourself to save money on labor costs! There are numerous DIY tutorials available online, and many projects can be completed with basic tools and skills.

Be Flexible

Being flexible with your timeline and project requirements is key. Sometimes unexpected delays or issues can arise, but flexibility will help you move forward without getting too stressed or overwhelmed. It's also important to be open to making changes or adjustments to your original plan if it will result in a better outcome.
