Early Spring is one of our favorite times of year here on Long Island. The rush of Nassau County tax season is behind us and the weather is starting to remind us of why we live here in the first place. We didn't sign up for double blizzard winters and temperatures in the twenties and thirties. But there isn't much time t rest! The Suffolk County deadline is approaching and all of these fun events are just going to cause distractions»

NCAA Basketball Championship
With just FOUR teams remaining in the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship, it is time to see who is worthy of the crown. Will it be the perennial powerhouse Tar Heels of North Carolina? Or the Cinderella Gamecocks of South Carolina? Maybe even the Ducks or the Zags? Regardless of who wins the crown, we will all be watching and that is time taken away from tax reductions. Make sure you get your applications in BEFORE the Final Four next weekend.
Easter/ Passover
Long Island is a very religiously diverse area and this time of year is filled with religious celebration. Whether you celebrate Easter or Passover, there are multiple dates leading up to the big celebration that can eat up a lo of your time. Not to mention, all the actual eating of course! It's easy to get lost in all the preparation so what better time than now to start the Suffolk County reduction process.
Earth Day
Our planet is all we have, without it we are nothing, and at Property Tax Reduction Consultants, we celebate the earth 365 days a year. Whether you choose to recycle, plant a tree or clean up the ocean, this is a day to give back to mother nature.
Mother's Day
The women who brought us into this world deserve much more than one day, but we celebrate them on Sunday, May 14th. Many choose a nice brunch, barbecue or simply family get together, but all moms really want is to get the whole family together. But wouldn't it be nice to get her a nice reduction on her expensive Suffolk County Property Taxes? Fill out her Mother's Day gift here» http://bit.ly/2jZJpxR

If you have any questions about the Suffolk County Grievance Process, our friendly customer service staff would love to help you! Call in your questions at 631-484-0654 or email info@ptrc.com if you would prefer that method.

American Taxes | Tax Reductions

Taxes are a major part of this countries framework and history and they are as old as the nation itself. In fact, they created this country and fueled the revolution that would set it free. Since then, there have been taxes added on both the state and federal level, but also others that have been taken away. With a new President now in office, there are certainly more changes to come, and the tax landscape will evolve just as it has since the birth of the United States.

When Were Taxes Implemented?
Out of the taxes we still pay today, the Estate tax is by far the oldest. It was implemented in 1797, but it has been repealed and reinstated multiple times throughout the years based on the current state of the nation. In addition to the Estate Tax, we had the Gift Tax implemented in 1924 and Federal Income Tax in 1913. But the 1920's and 1930's were BIG for tax reform. We saw the implementation of Sales Tax in 1921, Social Security Tax in 1935 and numerous others during the closing years of the Great Depression.
Tax Rates Through the Years
The tax that best represents the big picture is Federal Income Tax. Since being implemented in 1913, the tax has seen major shifts depending on war funding and other external factors. In the beginning, the tax was broken down into brackets based on income so 1% for income $0-$20,000, 2% for $20,000- $50,000 and so on and so forth. This did not come with a filing status like it does today for single or married taxpayers. But in 2009 compared to 1913, the average tax rate rose to almost 35% compared to just an average of 4% in 1913. Quite the difference!
Tax Challenges Through the Years
Now we are getting down to our bread and butter-- the tax challenges throughout our history. The nation took a turn and made Great Britain notice them when they hurled boxes of tea into Boston Harbor in protest of the tax on tea. Later on in our history, Pennsylvanians refuted the tax on whiskey during the Whiskey Rebellion of 1791. Today however, you can refute your taxes peacefully by filing a grievance with P.T.R.C. Inc. We won't be lighting any fires or destroying any offices, but our process is tried and true and we have earned millions in reductions for our clients throughout the years.

Nassau County Tax Reductions | Property Tax Reductions

Property taxes in Nassau County can be alarming when they pop out of the envelope. If you have been living here for awhile, you know there is a price to pay for the quality of the school systems and the desirable location in which we live. But could that price be unfair? The answer is most likely yes! Check out what you need to know about the Nassau County property tax system»

What is Property Tax Assessment?
The Department of Assessment is there to assess your property and determine a tax value that is appropriate for you based on the value of your home. Your property taxes go to things like the school budget and local government to fund projects within the community. We all know property taxes are necessary, but there is no reason to pay a rate that your property doesn't warrant.
How Often Is My Property Assessed?
The Department of Assessment does annual assessments in January. A new assessment is usually done after the New Year's break and your property's value can rise or fall from previous years based on the market.
How Does Nassau Compare to Other Counties?
Nassau County pays some of the highest property tax rates in the entire country. This is due to a number of different factors including:
  • School Districts
  • Average Annual Income
  • High Average Property Value
How Does an Assessment Affect My Tax Bills?
Your school district and other tax districts set an annual budget that is reliant upon your property taxes. Whatever tax revenue is needed for the district will be divided amongst homeowners based on their assessed property value. People with a higher property value bear more of the load while those with lower values will bear less. This is where a lot of challenges are won. The assessment of a property is often too high and based on that, a homeowner is expected to pay a rate that might be too high for their income. So we say again, if your property taxes SEEM to high, that means they probably are!

Here at P.T.R.C. Inc., we have been helping Nassau County homeowners reduce their property taxes for decades. Your district might have taken too much, or your property might have been assessed at a rate that was simply too high. Regardless of the situation, we can help you reduce your property taxes if you fill out this application!
