Summer Weather That Can Damage Your Home

When you think of weather that can impact your house, it’s not often you would think of it happening in the summer. From intense heat to heavy thunderstorms, your home could face some potentially damaging weather conditions this upcoming season. Make sure you’re prepared and know what to keep an eye on.

Heat

Probably the most common factor in home damage during the summer is the heat. Too much warmth on your roof can cause cracked or warped shingles. An extreme amount of heat can cause wood to expand, creating uneven surfaces for your deck or shingles. It can even damage paint, making it fade away quicker than it should.

Humidity

From the heat comes humidity and a bunch of other issues. Moisture can cause mold and mildew build-up in your attic or between your walls. If the humidity finds its way into any other parts of the house, it will also cause decay and damage. Moisture can sneak its way into your home through the seals of your doors and windows, so keep an eye on any signs of humidity in your home and get them fixed as soon as you can.

Thunderstorms

Summer is known to have some intense thunderstorms. Heavy amounts of rain can lead to roof and structural damage to your home. Leaks and other issues can surface because of torrential downpours as well. Not only is the rain a problem, but sometimes the thunder alone is enough to cause potential problems! The shock wave and pressure of the thunderstorm could give your home interior and exterior damage.
