LI Restaurants That Feel Like a Tropical Vacation

While you may not be jetting off to a tropical paradise soon, you’re still in luck. Long Island may not be in the tropics, but we’ve got beautiful, scenic restaurants with great food and ocean-front views.

Here’s where you can get your tropical fix this season close to home:

1. Freeport’s Nautical Mile

Located on Woodcleft Avenue, the Nautical Mile features a waterfront strip of restaurants, bars, shops and outdoor areas perfect for families and party-goers alike. Choose from favorites such as Otto’s Sea Grill, EB Elliot’s, and Tropix on the Mile.

2. Flynn’s Fire Island

Fire Island always feels like a mini island getaway and with a visit to this staple restaurant your trip is complete! Flynn’s is known for its waterfront dining, with menu options such as pan-seared scallops, live music, and beautiful decor.

3. Besito (Roslyn, Huntington, West Islip)

If you’re dreaming of a Mexican vacation, Besito has the menu and scenery to get you there! Their authentic menu includes guacamole (made table-side) and a deliciously boozy margarita. And at the end of each meal, you’ll be given a worry doll to wish all of your troubles away.

4. RHUM (Patchogue)

For some serious island vibes, head straight to RHUM. This Caribbean-inspired restaurant has a great menu and delicious drinks. Plus, you can swing the night away and enjoy a coconut mojito on one of their bench swings!

5. Cafe Havana

Ditch Long Island’s pine trees and average cuisine for palm trees, Latin jazz, and a wide variety of Island-inspired food at Cafe Havana. Their menu consists of Cuban, Puerto Rican, and Spanish influences, making it a unique dining experience with something for the whole family.

Explore LI’s Hidden Gems

For families, couples and adventurous individuals, Long Island has a seemingly never-ending list of places to visit and things to do. Due to their popularity, some of these attractions can fall victim to long lines and overcrowding -- which means less exploring and more waiting.

With a little digging, however, you can uncover the best of what ‘The Island’ has to offer, without all of the waiting around. Whether it be an under-the-radar restaurant or a lush lavender field — we’ve got some hidden gems right in our own backyard!

Lavender By The Bay

Trying to get the perfectly-purple Instagram photo is never a task in East Marion, where Lavender bunches take over an endless plot of land on the north fork. Here you’re able to bring your furry friends along for an adventure as you dance through Lavender fields, and purchase your own goodies to bring home!

Cornucopia’s Noshery
Tucked away on a quiet corner in the heart of Amityville lies a breakfast and lunch hotspot that boasts much more than an eclectic menu. This kinda-retro, goth inspired, hippy restaurant includes a selection of fruity boozy breakfast drinks and a ‘Tropical Waffle’ (complete with a piƱa colada sauce), that’s truly second to none.

Collector Car Showcase
Among many historic buildings in the town of Oyster Bay, Collector Car Showcase (or CCS Motors) is an automobile enthusiast’s trip back in time. This private facility houses vintage & luxury automobiles from all decades, in addition to restored relics from each automotive period. Hosted often is a Saturday morning ‘Cars & Coffee’ event, which brings hundreds of sports cars together for a morning of caffeine and carburetors.

Charlotte’s Frozen Yogurt/Speakeasy
For those looking for a few drinks, you just might find something special in the basement of Charlotte’s Frozen Yogurt in Farmingdale. This frozen yogurt shop puts on a front upon first entrance, but a little digging and a secret password just might lead you to the basement, where live music, low light, and specialty cocktails are available for anyone over 21.

Nassau Museum of Art - The Frick Estate
For families looking for a fun day out, the Nassau County Museum of Art houses a little bit of treasure for everyone in one place! Located in Roslyn Harbor, this former estate is now the home to different types of fine art, relics, and an outdoor sculpture garden worth taking a stroll (or two!) through. You and your gang will spend hours gazing among some of the world’s finest art, in a building as historic as the items it protects.

Father's Day on Long Island

Looking for a fun way to celebrate dad this Sunday? We’ve rounded up some local events offering special promotions:

For the adventurous dad…

You can also head over to the Long Island Adventure Park in Wheatley Heights for an afternoon of free zip lining (with a paid climber, use code DAD19 at checkout). And if you’d prefer to hang indoors, Karts Indoor Raceway in Ronkokoma is letting dads indulge their inner child — riding for free with a paying child.

For the beer loving dad…
Dads, enjoy your first beer for free at Greenport Harbor Brewing Co. (in both Greenport AND Peconic) as well as a discounted $4 pint at Long Ireland Brewing.

For the wine loving dad…
Head out to Riverheard to RGNY Winery for live music and a free glass of wine for dad. Or to Peconic’s Pindar Vineyards, where dads will receive a free gift with any wine or beer purchase at the tasting bar (live music here, as well!).

For the sports loving dad…
Play ball! Catch a vintage “base ball” game at Old Bethpage Village Restoration, as it was played (and spelled) in 1864! More of an equestrian? Check out an exciting polo match at Bethpage State Park or attend Breakfast at Belmont!

For the foodie…
Instead of an at home BBQ, why not head out for lunch or dinner! Spuntino Wine Bar & Italian Tapas in Westbury offers a bottomless brunch from 11:30am-3pm and Frank’s Steaks in Jericho and RVC is offering “a steak fit for a king” — $50, Prime Dry Aged, 24 oz Bone-In New York Strip Steak.

Don’t Miss the Suffolk County Deadline!

Calling all Suffolk County residents: it’s time to get your tax grievance application in ASAP.

Please be sure to submit your application by TOMORROW: May 16th.

While the official deadline is May 21st, we will need time to manually file all applications with each town in Suffolk. Since this is a manual process, we want to ensure we submit your grievance application on time! By receiving applications by 2pm on May 16th, we can do just that.

Still on the fence about submitting? Don’t be! Filing for a tax reduction is of no cost to you. That’s right, we won’t charge you anything if we don’t get you a reduction. AND, your taxes will not automatically increase just because of a challenge.

If we do succeed in lowering your property taxes, our fee is a percentage of the first year of savings (and Suffolk homeowners may have a $75 CMA fee). Tax savings in subsequent years are entirely yours!

Have more questions about the tax reduction process? Visit our FAQ page or contact our office, we’d be glad to answer any additional questions.
