Summer Home Improvement Ideas

No matter what kind of home you live in, there are always upgrades that can be made to the space and additional features that can be added to the home in order to increase your enjoyment of it and increase its overall value to you. This summer, consider making these upgrades to your home so that you can spend more time enjoying it with friends and family all summer long.

Garden Upgrades

If you don’t already have a garden, consider starting one! In addition to adding value to your humble abode (gardens are great investments), they also give you a chance to get out in nature while doing something that will improve your home. Even if you lack a green thumb, there are plenty of plants and flowers that grow beautifully with little care.

Outdoor Living Space

There are tons of great home improvement projects to complete over summer, so why not start with something you can enjoy from day one? An outdoor living space is a worthy project. Not only will it add value to your house, but summer is a great time to spend outdoors and enjoy your new space. Whether you want to build an outdoor kitchen or lounge area, there are plenty of ways to add an outdoor living space that fits with your existing lifestyle and property.

Room Additions

It might be a good idea to add a room or extension onto your home, such as an attached garage or other type of storage space. This kind of project is best tackled in summer, when you’ll be able to enjoy more time in and around your home while work is ongoing. It will also give you plenty of space to store equipment and tools that you use for other improvements over winter.

New Flooring

Installing new flooring can be a significant project, but it’s not as hard as you might think. From installing tile to laying hardwood floors, there are several affordable home improvement projects that have a big impact.

Best of all, most of these upgrades will save you money in your monthly utility bills. Laying tile or hardwood floors adds an extra layer of insulation to your home and makes for a pleasant place to relax. Summer isn’t just about going on vacation; it’s also about making your house comfortable and energy efficient!

The Best Beaches to Add to Your LI Bucket List

Long Island has a lot of natural beauty, from the sandy beaches to the cliffs and wetlands. It's home to some of the best beaches in New York! There are so many on the island to choose from that it can be hard to know which ones are worth visiting. So, if you're looking to make a fun summer bucket list of the best beach spots, we've got you covered! Here's our list of the best sandy shores to enjoy this season.

Robert Moses State Park Beach

The Great South Bay at Robert Moses State Park has beautiful views of the bay, fishing piers, and boat launches for those who love water sports. This beach is one of the top destinations for many native Long Islanders, even with the distance it requires to get to it. Visitors can look forward to soft sand, food vendors, and more.

Jones Beach State Park Beach

Located in Nassau County, Jones Beach is the longest beach on LI and offers gorgeous views of Fire Island Inlet and more. Of course, its beaches are a staple — but don't forget about its concert venue, restaurants, and many events held throughout the year! Whether you're looking for a relaxing day or want to enjoy the Bethpage Air Show, it's a great popular destination.

Rocky Point Beach

This beach features warm sand and shallow water with views of Montauk Lighthouse in the distance. There are also plenty of activities like kayaking or renting bikes nearby! So, if you've had your fill of sunbathing and ocean swimming for the day, you can go off and explore Montauk after.

Long Beach

Long Beach in Nassau County is home to a world-class boardwalk with live music, rides, and other attractions that can't be found anywhere else on Long Island. Even with its close distance to New York City, it's home to some of the most powdery beaches on Long Island.

Watch Hill

Is it really a Long Island summer if you haven't visited Fire Island? Watch Hill is ranked among the top ten beaches in NY State! Located on the western edge of the Otis Pike Fire Island High Dune Wilderness, it's a pristine and peaceful getaway destination. It's relatively closed off from the rest of Fire Island, making it a perfect spot for relaxation.

Why Are My Property Taxes Higher Than My Neighbor's?

Property taxes can be a tricky subject. What's the difference between what you pay and your neighbor pays? Why are my property taxes higher than my neighbors? Property taxes differ from person to person, and many factors come into play when determining them. These factors include:

Square Footage

How property taxes work is that they are calculated based on the assessed value of your home and the mileage rate for the area you live in. Typically, houses with larger square footage and cost more will have to pay more in property taxes.

Difference in Assessments

Another reason for the difference in property taxes is due to the assessment. If you live in a newer house, chances are that your home was assessed at a higher value than your neighbor's. Older homes may be, on average, lower-valued, but this is not always the case as well.

County Policies

Different counties will assess tax rates differently based on their policies. Property tax rates vary by county, school district, type of property (residential vs. commercial), and the type of service provided. Property tax rates also change when local budgets do not have enough revenue to provide services or maintain public infrastructure such as roads, bridges, schools, etc., resulting in varying property taxes.

Additions to Your Home

That's right — anything from a pool to higher fences or even an extension on your property could result in higher property taxes. So if your humble abode has more amenities than your neighbors, you're probably going to have higher taxes.

5 Planner Tips for Beginners

Having an organized planner and schedule is the key to success – regardless of your industry, having this will ensure you don't miss out on important dates and events that may impact your performance. A great way to stay on top of things is to use some basic planner tips to better organize your day-to-day life and career and focus on what matters. Check out these five planner tips below!

Use a Planner Often

It may not seem important to write notes or ideas in your planner, but the more you use it, the easier it will be to remember essential items. The key is to get into a routine of using your planner daily and filling it with appointments, meetings, and other events.

You'll also want to regularly keep track of deadlines, tasks, and goals to make sure they're being met on time. Before long, all of these small details will become second nature — and before you know it, planning ahead won't feel like an extra chore!

Don't Overwhelm Yourself With Too Many Ideas

A planner is an excellent way to get organized, but you could also easily overwhelm yourself if there's too much going on. It's important to make sure your calendar doesn't become too packed — and that you don't feel like it's impossible to fit everything in. If that happens, chances are that you won't use it as often as possible and will quickly lose interest in keeping it up-to-date.

Work Smart, Not Hard

You have a planner for a reason — it's here to help you work smarter, not harder! If you're struggling with productivity, take some time to plan out exactly what needs to be done and when. The more organized you are, the less stressed and overwhelmed you'll feel.

Reflect on Your Day

Having a planner on hand also allows you to recollect your day. Reflecting is important because it helps us identify what went well and what didn't and use that information to plan better for the future.

For example, maybe you planned out how many hours of work you wanted to get done each day but couldn't follow through with that goal due to unforeseen circumstances. Reflecting on these unplanned events helps us figure out how we can avoid them in the future or deal with them more effectively when they arise again.

Mark Important Dates

It's nearly impossible to keep up with all your important dates that come up throughout the week daily. From meetings to doctor's appointments, your calendar should appropriately mark significant events. This leads us to your reminder for this month: the Suffolk County grievance deadline is coming up!

Mark your calendar for May 17, 2022, and be sure to get your applications in well before this date!
