Bugs are an unfortunate part of Summer, especially at this time of year when they have all reproduced and matured. They are likely already in your yard, so there is no reason to entice them even more. Try implementing these tips to help lock down your personal space:
While sunscreen is important and necessary, it is also not the best in terms of pest control. You can add sunscreen and mosquito repellent, but then you are adding so many chemicals to your skin that are going to dry it out. Next time you are looking to SPF, try adding a little lemon eucalyptus oil and mix it in your hands. It actually hydrates your skin and keeps the bugs away!
Use Plate Covers
Mosquitoes and bugs love a good salty/sweet meal to end their day. Their sense of smell is keen and mosquitoes from miles away can smell a meal like burgers and hot dogs and all congregate to get their share. You have to deny them! Check out these cool plate covers and see how they work for you!
Cover Your Trash Bins
- Your trash bins can not only be confined by their lids.
- A full grown raccoon can knock over a trash bin with ease and then it will be open season on your leftovers.
- Take a bungee cord and stretch it across the top of your lid feeding it through the hole. If the hole in the lid is not big enough, just cut it open more with a pocket knife.
- Wrap the ends around the handles enough times so that it is completely taut.
- Knock your trash bin over while it is empty to make sure your rope is tight enough.
Clean Up Immediately
The time to clean up is IMMEDIATELY after you are done eating! Bring an empty trash bin out to your outdoor table and throw everything away once you have finished your plate. The longer it sits, the more time the mosquitoes have to swarm. After you clean the table, wipe it down with WINDEX to eliminate spills and stains that could cause problems later on.
