At 11 a.m. tomorrow, Long Beach officials will be making an
announcement on the reopening of the first four-block section of the boardwalk.
The announcement will be made at the end of National Boulevard, near the Allegria
Hotel.
The new $44.2 million boardwalk was required by contract to
finish fourth-fifths of a mile by today, officials claim the project is on time
and within the budget range. Grace Industries, the firm building the boardwalk,
is supposed to have the 2.2-mile structure done by November 12th,
and “substantial completion” of the boardwalk by October 13th.
Not only is the boardwalk brand new, it is being constructed
with materials that will protect it from any future storms coming. The
structure is compiled with a retaining wall, Brazialian hardwoods and concrete,
making the new boardwalk “Stronger, Smarter, and Safer”.
Although the boardwalk is brand new, when all set and done,
old-time benches, light poles and fixtures will be featured on the structure.
This gives the city a brand new, stronger outlook on things while keeping it
original in honor of the former boardwalk.
